This is a brief summary of the public transport of Budapest.
You can find a detailed description

Expect that English understood only in the public transport (BKK)
customer
service points at the airport and at major train stations, and not
necessarily elsewhere in the city. You may also consider using
ticket
vending machines (http://www.bkk.hu/automata/)
that have interfaces in
different languages (Hungarian, English, German, French, Spanish,
Romanian,
Slovak, Chinese and Russian).

Various mobile phone
applications are freely available that will help you navigate in
the
Budapest public transport network.
Note that a single ticket is only valid for a single uninterrupted
trip
without transfer. You will probably need 2-3 single tickets from
the airport
to your hotel, depending on the exact destination. Blocks of 10
tickets
(3000 Ft, http://www.bkk.hu/en/block-of-10-tickets/
vs. 350 Ft for each
single ticket purchased in advance; 450 Ft from a bus driver) may
be a good
option in case you only plan to use public transport rarely.
Single tickets
have to be validated before each ride, either at the stop
(metro/suburban
train, tram) or directly in the vehicle itself (suburban train,
tram, bus).
If you intend to use your spare time for sightseeing, we highly
recommend
buying 24-hour passes (1650 Ft,

a weekly ticket (4950

or a ticket that
allows you to travel on 5 chosen days within 30 consecutive days

If you happen to be a student in a EU member state, Iceland,
Switzerland,
Norway, or Switzerland attending regular daytime or evening
courses, it may
be beneficial to purchase a monthly ticket for students (3450
Ft,

Please note the
following regulations:
"The appropriate foreign and international student IDs are
accepted for the
indicated validity periods; student passes purchased with a start
date
during the ID validity period can be used the latest for a month
from the
last day of validity of the given student ID. If the validity
period is
indicated only by month and year, then the last day of that month
will be
considered. If no expiry date (or school year, semester) is
indicated on the
student ID, then the ID is accepted for 1 year from the date of
issue or
(depending on the indication) during the school year. If no date
of issue
(school year) is indicated at all, the ID is not accepted as a
student ID.
In case no number or photo is shown on the accepted foreign
student ID, but
the indicated data thereon can be clearly matched with a personal
identification document, then the student ID is valid with the
latter
document. In case no number is available on the student ID, the
number of
the personal identification document needs to be indicated in the
appropriate field of the pass slip. The foreign student ID is
accepted only
if it is a separate document i.e. it is not printed onto a
bankcard or any
other card issued by a business venture."
Be prepared to show your student ID on request during a ticket
inspection.
These inspections are rather frequent, especially in the city
center of
Budapest.

information
HOW TO GET TO HUNGARY
TRANSPORT
Hungary lies at the crossroads of the main tourist traffic flows in
Europe. Major airline companies operate regular flights to and from
Budapest. Railway connections from all European countries are
excellent, while there are also bus and boat connections with
countries in the vicinity of Hungary. Budapest can be reached by car
on motorways M1, M3, M5 and M7.
ARRIVAL BY AIR
All participants arriving at Liszt Ferenc International Airport are
advised to take the airport shuttle minibus to their hotels; this is
the least expensive and most reliable service.
The Airport Shuttle Minibus (ASM), a shuttle service to hotels runs
every 10 minutes for approx. 5-6 persons. Fare: approx. EURO 12.

Metropolitan bus No. 200E (blue) also leaves from the terminal
building for Kõbánya-Kispest station, where you may take metro line
No. 3 (blue line) to the centre of the city.
Taxis are also available. The taxi company at the airport is:
Főtaxi. Fare: approx. EURO 30-50. The taxis are equipped with credit
card readers (please check it in advance with the driver).
ARRIVAL BY TRAIN
There are 3 major international railway stations in Budapest (Deli
pu., Keleti pu. and Nyugati pu.), located in the city center and
within easy reach of the Conference hotels either by public
transport or by taxi.
CURRENCY, EXCHANGE, CREDIT CARDS
The official currency in Hungary is Hungarian Forint (HUF). Exchange
facilities are offered to participants at the airport, in hotels.
Master
Card and Visa are accepted at the registration desk, in
hotels, first class restaurants and city stores, but you should ask
or look for the logo before ordering a service.
INSURANCE
The Organizing Committee can not assume responsibility for injuries
or losses occurring to persons or personal belongings during the
Training School. Participants are therefore advised to travel with a
valid insurance package.
LOCAL TRANSPORTATION IN BUDAPEST
Public transport in the city is well organized. Trams, buses and
metro trains operate without conductors. Tickets must be purchased
in advance at tobacco shops, newsstands, metro stations or at vendor
machines at some tram and bus stops. Weekly and Tourist (valid for 3
days) passes allowing free travel on all means of transportation
within the city limits can be bought at each metro station.
A Budapest public transport route planner and live (GPS-based)
timetable is available for smartphones and tablets
(Android/Apple/Windows Phone).
The name of the app is "BKK FUTÁR".

TAXIS
We suggest that you use only taxis equipped with a taximeter, such
as Fõtaxi, City Taxi, Taxi5, TaxiPlus or Buda Taxi. Beware of
private cabs, especially those without a taximeter.
TIPPING
It is customary to give a tip of 10% over the amount of the bill at
restaurants (unless service charge is already included) and in
taxis.
ELECTRICITY SUPPLY
In Hungary, electricity is supplied at 230 V, 50 Hz. The 2-pin
connecting plug is identical
to the one used in e.g. Germany, different from that used
in some other countries, e.g. China, USA, UK and Japan.
NOTICE FOR DRIVERS (ZERO ALCOHOL)
Drivers should be aware that there is a zero tolerance of blood
alcohol level while driving in Hungary.
PARKING
Parking is possible next to the university building. The car owner
has to indicate this request to the organizers by providing the
make, colour, and number plate of the car.
SHOPPING
HOURS
The usual shopping hours in Budapest are from 10:00 to 18:00, in big
shopping centres around the city up to 21:00.
SMOKING
Smoking is not permitted inside public buildings or at the venues
for the social functions. Smokers are required to smoke outdoors in
the designated area.
